My name is Catherine Flournoy of Hoopadelic™ Hoopdance, a holistic hoopdance service provider in the Los Angeles area. Having spent a number of years living in and around N.E. Los Angeles I'm passionate to bring as many services to this part of LA County so residents don't feel left out from some of the really cool things that are happening on the Westside.

With that said I'd really love to bring hoopdance classes to a neighborhood or two (three, four, five.... ;)) near you! If you know of any dance studios, yoga studios, warehouse, venues, gymnasiums, ANYTHING that can hold a large group of bodies in motion then please send your requests and suggestions my way! Since I can't be at more than one place at a time (at least not in this dimension) I would LOVE to learn more about the various areas in N.E. Los Angeles through your suggestions. Thank you so much for your help! Let's make N.E. Los Angeles an ever growing area for cultural arts, entertainment and unique activities.

Much Love, Light & Hoopiness,

Let me know what you're looking for and we'll pick one off. They're tough to land and make sense out of, but here's a few examples of what I have as of today:

Sun Valley house (by North Hollywood), 4bed 2bath, cosmetic flip most likely. Worth low 5's, pick it up for low 4's.

Brentwood 1ba condo, mid to high 3's worth about $480k. Cosmetic flip, or great for end-user.

Heavy fixer with Mold issues - contractor special and priced accordingly, in a great area of west LA, not ready til Jan. though.

and a Pacoima lease option just came in.

and a triplex suitable for up to 6 condos. Sweet deal $150k under market if you move FAST. I have this one myself under contract - in Hollywood near Melrose and Gower.

see http://www.RogerV.com for more info.
r

Eagle Rock (not a foreclosure) 2bed 1ba low 4's worth about 500k

Just think about it- people who work in Los Angeles will be able to live in Los Angeles. No long commutes, no need to expand freeways, and the reduction of pollution, all for about $50.00 to $75.00 per year per property owner.

In 1997, my husband and I were two working professionals (he an artist with Disney and me a social worker with the County of Los Angeles) who set out on the journey to buy our first home. We had no debt and great credit, we saved every dime we could, we did without vacations, we drove very old cars and we took the bus to save money. But with all that, we still needed a little assistance to buy a house. We found that assistance from the City of Los Angeles’ first-time housing programs, similar to one that Prop H on the November 7th ballot would fund.

During the nine years we have lived in our Silver Lake home, we have not only transformed our once dilapidated house into a community gem, we have helped cleaned up the surrounding neighborhood, helped the police rid our street of drug dealers, fought the city to install a traffic light at a dangerous crosswalk, mentored local kids, organized the neighbors to fight for what we needed from the city and county, served as a parent leader at our daughter’s school (our community school), organized community fairs, volunteered with community organizations and coalitions that fight for more park space and improved public transportation, and helped start two Neighborhood Councils. And all in all, by helping to improve the community, we contributed much more than the monies we received from the city’s home-buyer program. Homeownership and high quality affordable rental housing makes for better communities. Vote yes on Los Angeles Proposition H.

Open Call for Photo Submission: My L.A. Pic

This call goes out to everybody in Los Angeles. We want your digital photographs of Los Angeles for My L.A. Pic project to be included in the upcoming exhibit L.A. 225 which will be held at the Pico House Gallery to commemorate the 225th birthday of Los Angeles in September of 2006.

The objective of My L.A. Pic is to create a digital photographic presentation of Los Angeles’ neighborhoods as seen through the eyes of the people who live there. Show your side of L.A. that people wouldn’t normally see. You do not have to be an artist or photographer to participate.

There is NO entry fee and the youth are encouraged to participate. We also encourage Los Angeles organizations to share this information with their members. Photographs selected to be included in the exhibit are the sole discretion of the project’s organizers.
Photo Submission Guidelines

Number of Submissions Accepted: Each person may submit one digital photograph which must have been taken within the city of Los Angeles.

The following information must be included in the submission:

1-Where was the photo shot? Use nearest intersection. Example: Wilshire & Western.

2-When was the photo taken? Example: Aug.1.2006

3-What is the photographer’s first and last name?

4- What is the photographer’s age? Example: Age: 22

All photos must be:

Original: Photos submitted must have been taken by the person submitting, and may not be a reproduction of another image. Images that might infringe on copyright, trademark or that promote a commercial product will not be selected.
Family friendly: All photos must be suitable for viewing by general public, this includes children. Any photo deemed inappropriate will not be selected.

Size: All photos must be in JPEG (.jpg) format at 72 dpi. The dimensions may not be larger than 720 and smaller than 160 pixels. If this all sounds too complicated, don’t despair. It’s actually quite simple. You can even do it online for free. Just use your favorite browser and search for keywords like “resize photo”. We found the following website by doing the same: http://www.resize2mail.com/ Please note that we are in no way affiliated with this website and found them by doing a search on the internet. They are a free service and resizing your photo will take only a minute or two. It’s really important to send us the right size no matter how you resize the photos. We simply do not have the resources to do it for you. If you do use the said website (or any other) please choose the [720 x 540] dimension specification. Other sizes will not be considered.

Deadline for the first stage is Friday, Aug. 19, 2006 at 5pm.

Email your image along with the requested information to: myLApic@yahoo.com and type "My LA Pic" in the subject line

You may only submit your picture once; multiple submissions will be disqualified. IMPORTANT: By sending your image to myLApic@yahoo.com you agree to allow the organizers to use your image in the L.A. 225 exhibition and its associated publicity. Please contact project coordinator at myLApic@yahoo.com with all inquires.

This information and updates will be available on: http://www.geocities.com/mylapic

The 1947 project presents its newest historic L.A. Crime Bus Tour, the downtown-themed Nightmares of Bunker Hill.

Featuring lively tales from the 1880s to the 1970s, Nightmares of Bunker Hill reveals the weird, old L.A. that's not there anymore and the badly-behaved people who didn't make the city great, but sure made it more interesting.

Crime Bus passengers will tour the old Italian/Mexican district (near modern day Chinatown) and visit the scenes of grisly bar fights, tragic suicides, opium dens and rumored hordes of buried treasure, and discover a mysterious local ghost story that's as elegantly spooky as any in England.

Then it's into the heart of the historic business district, where early Angelenoes go toppling into open sewers, toss bottles of acid at former lovers, torment their dentists, attempt to speak to the dead, find severed limbs in their backyards and spit tobacco juice on the backs of ladies' ball gowns.

For more info, to purchase your ticket via paypal or make other arrangements, please visit http://www.1947project.com

Mark your calendars too for the debut of the Pasadena Confidential tour, July 22.

There's absolutely nothing on these Californians' third...album...that you haven't heard before on a hundred indie discs. Languid strum patterns, spooky pianos, shimmery arpeggios, distant e-bows sawing away under half-whispered, heavy-lidded vocals-- it's all there. But it's better than you might think...The reason it all works? Texture. Aaron Espinoza pays more attention to texture than just about anyone out there twiddling the proverbial knobs...Every instrument on "Everyone Down Here" sounds warm, yet weird: hearing a simple tremolo on a guitar lick is, somehow, a revelation. Even the tape hiss that haunts the first and last several seconds of each song is somehow rendered pleasant, like a handful of sand oozing between your fingers.
Perhaps no other guitarist has had as much influence on Jamaican music, and certainly none as far as contemporary reggae is concerned, than Earl "Chinna" Smith, the quintessential session musician and tour player.

In a career that has spanned over three decades, "Chinna" has made a name for himself with countless sessions for reggaes biggest names, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, and Agustus Pablo to name a few. Smith has literally played with everyone in reggae lending his unique guitar sound and arrangements to well over 300 recordings, including many of reggae music's most memorable classics.

When Smiths guitar work reached the ears of Bob Marley, he was asked to add his guitar sound to the reggae legends 1976 classic, "Rastaman Vibration" album, as well as touring with the Wailers. He also played guitar on several other sessions for Marley over the years, including several of the classic songs on "Exodus."

An unabashed purest, and a musician's musician, Chinna is committed to live recording, a trait that caries over to his guitar playing style which involves a minimum use of studio gadgets.

"People have stopped working and let electronics do their work for them," Chinna told Guitar Player Magazine in a 1983 interview, "I'm not against electronics but I believe if the music I'm playing can be more natural, then it will be more spiritual." Chinna continues to play and produce the music he loves and has much more yet to be released, so stay tuned...

Edi Fitzroy was born Fitzroy Edwards on November 17, 1955 in Chapelton, Clarendon, the son of a sound system operator Vasco Edwards and Kathleen Robinson. Exposed to music, particularly local music from an early age, an association with Pam Hickling and Michael “Dread At The Control” Campbell led Edi to do his first set of recordings “Miss Molly Colly” and “Country Man”, both written by Hickling. Songs like “African Religion”, “The Gun” and “Sylee” followed. As a result of this exposure Edi traveled to London with Mikey Dread where he did opening acts for the ‘The Clash’, a British rock group.

We were thinking of doing Kaldi's on El Centro but I'm having a helluva time trying to find out what time they close (no answering machine message, no hours posted on Citysearch or other sites). We may end up doing Buster's if Kaldi isn't open late enough. I'm thinking 8pm Friday.

Anyway, kinda vague right now, but check the South Pasadena tribe for details as they firm up and please join us if you feel up to a little easygoing Tribe F2F.

International Deejay Gigolos is the Munich based record label ran by techno legend DJ Hell. Started in 1996 as an affiliate of Disko B, Gigolo quickly established itself as THE definitive cult label, a label where you could find everyone from Jeff Mills to downtempo electro....where every release was unified by Hell's personal taste and the highest standards.

Over the years this has become the 'Gigolo' sound, an open and adventurous musical style that laughs in the face of convention, fusing raw acid-house with electro, nu-wave and synth-pop.

Long before the electro-revival and vocoded pop songs, Gigolo was pioneering the way with a roster that includes techno icons Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills and DJ Hell; David Carretta, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, DJ Naughty, The Advent, Dopplereffekt, Terrence Fixmer, Japanese Telecom and new signings like Fischerspooner, Tiga & Zyntherius, Mount Sims, Savas Pascalidis and Vitalic.
